Okay, Mr Moderator... I've been a member for over a year now... Isn't it about time to remove the "New Member" designation from my name? Thank you. Who holds the record for new member longevity, anyway? They should get some kind of award or something. I have what's left of a Spotmatic that I took skydiving once that I'll be glad to donate. It hit the ground long before I did, at a much higher velocity. A true "Terminal Velocity".

people come and go, counting postings and just looking at registration dates does not mean anything
I know of people who knew this forum before it was upgraded years ago
some have even been around ever since it was started way back in the past
with a new name you almost naturally create a new profile, take on a new identity or whatever you may want to name it: NEW MEMBER if you don't mind
Rick_oleson is in the lead I guess

Great answer. I suppose questions about the future are even more futile... so I won't ask who you will be next!

Julie,

Some would say by magic, but it is just about people with knowledge/experience sharing it people who have problems with classic cameras/optical equipment. The Forum caters for the DIY enthusiast who wants to keep these older cameras in working condition. The Collector's Lounge is an area where slightly off topic subjects can crop up from time to time.

Obviously the more modern electronic wonders find no place here, for exactly the same reason todays new cars will never be kept running 15 years hence by the home mechanic. Too much specialised test equipment is required and micro-computers, chips and black boxes etc are definitely not DIY friendly. Modern cameras are not 'repaired' in the way most of the contributors here, understand the meaning of 'repair'. The modern repair now consists of exchanging circuit boards or complete shutter units etc - these units are seen as not economic to repair, hence individual spare parts are not available.

Hi, Julie!
One thing that Glenn didn't mention was that the people who post here are generally a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable bunch (like Glenn himself) who enjoy helping others, especially those who are new to the hobby. Many of these threads contain great humor as well as good advice. So, come on in and enjoy!

Thank you so much for that friendly welcome. I have inherited a small collection of cameras given to me by a distant relative who thought they were more or less useless nowadays. I have tried out one of them, a Konica 35, and was pleased with the results. But the other ones are definitely more complicated. That is why I wanted to make sure there is someone I can ask for help if I run into trouble with those.

Oh, yes, you will find help here! How about posting a list of your cameras? You might get some helpful advice on how to check out, maintain and use them. One of the reasons I still use and teach film is that it forces one to slow down and plan each shot, as you have a limited number. No erasing to try again!
