So I've just bought this Praktica LTL on ebay a while ago, and of course the owner had no clue on anything about it since she sent me an instruction manual to a different camera and a computer plug in cable. I didn't realize the problem until I had already used two or three rolls of film, and after I got the first roll developed I was right about it. Every three time you wind the film the focal plane shutter disappears but returns after you snap the pictures, but that leaves the whole film being exposed to the light ruining very third picture. I don't have any money to get it fixed if it can be fixed, or do I know how much it would cost, and i don't really know enough to be risky enough to take it apart myself. I'm leaving on a trip to go all around Europe in about a week and id really like to take it with me. Does anyone think they'd know how to fix the problem? or would it be better to just buy a new one if its unfixable? |

Below the wind-lever, under the top cover, is a sleeve which turns 1/3 of a turn each time you cock the shutter. There is a pawl which engages one of 3 slots to push the sleeve round, and 3 pins on the sleeve, one of which engages in a hooked plate each time to pull a metal strip which cocks the shutter. I would be pretty sure the fault must be around here, but it is not one I have met. There is a guide in the articles section on this site to taking the cover off an MTL3, which should be similar, but if it is the first camera you have dismantled, you might be better off looking for an alternative for your holiday, and you will have an interesting job to look forward to when you get back! |
