I'm a very recent convert (addict?) to old stuff - with the help of this forum I managed to get a Franka Solida going again - unfortunately I then bounced it on concrete. (here's a picture off it: http://londondailyphoto.blogspot.com/2008/06/sad-tale.html)
£5 off eBay later, and I now have a Bessa with Compur shutter, but I can't see how to dismantle it.
I've got the front and back elements off, and I've turned the cut-out circle that locks the plate that says "Voigtlander" and "Compur" and it now turns freely through about 30 degrees, coming to what feels like a hard stop at each edge but that's it.
What happens now? Do I have to take the middle element out? (I assume it unscrews)If so, is it ok to cut slots in the brass to pride a key to undo that ring, or should I just try to turn it? (I'm worried about distorting it)

Hi,
You may have to remove the centre element. Here's a link to another Compur repair page.

If you can it would be better to use just a friction drive on the top of the centre lens rim, but it may be too tight to allow that. You can slot the top rim if you have to. I doubt that it will distort.

Hello Ham: I have used a rubberized matt the kind used in cupboards , It grips tightly and doesen't mar the rim. Once the lens is off you turn the little half circle screw to loosen the serrated nut. Good luck Don |

Greg, Tom, thanks for that. It's now in pieces. All I have to do now is work out how to get at the shutter blades. And then get it all back together ;-)
