Hi, I'm new here. New to classic cameras also. So this is also my introductory post. I have 2 Hi-Matics, both from ebay, and each only cost $10. The Hi-Matic 9 seems to work fine. The 7 also takes good pics but the advance lever won't return. I have to push it back with my thumb every time. Both Hi-Matics needed reseals bad. I have already done the 9 with Jon Goodman's kit, and plan to do the 7 next. Other cameras I own are: Pentax SP1000 from the early 1970s (not exactly a classic I know), Canon A-1 (also not a classic, but I love it), and a post-war Leica IIIc (body only) which I haven't received in the mail yet. Anyway, I would like to fix the Hi-Matic 7 advance lever. There is one screw on the back of the top plate and one screw on the side. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so anything more than this I would probably take to the local repair shop. Thanks for any info. |

maybe you're right in the old days structures here were different people were willing to help and the forum was moderated on a daily basis everything is different now people come and go if you take time to read the archives (the early years have been deleted!) you can easily find out about the loss in quality so maybe you picked the right forum ... to leave cheers |

btw, I have one hi-m 7 open right in front of me, top cap off. there is a spiral retracting spring on the wind shaft, the one in your camera can either be broken or may have come off on one end - most probably where there is a screw holding it in place on the upper end of the shaft right under the film counter, but the problem you describe can also be resulting from a misbent shaft itself or may be caused by corrosion ... |
