Hello,

I have a Prontor II shutter that has poor flash synchronization and I would like to fix it. I used this shutter for a project 25 years ago and the flash synch worked back then (at least I think it did). Since then, the camera has been sitting in a box. The way I tested the synch was to put a flash behind the shutter and place a piece of paper over the shutter. If the synch is working well, then I should see a nice bright circle the size of the shutter opening. But, all I see is a small square-ish shape, which leads me to conclude that the flash is firing too early or too late.

There is a small screw next to the flash plug that I believe is for adjusting the flash synch. On the Prontor S, which is a later model, there is a lever in the same location instead of a screw. However, I can see, when I turn the screw, that the flash synch contact moves in and out a little bit. I tried gradually turning this screw to different positions, but I could never get the flash synch to give me a bright circle.

I'm wondering if 25 years ago I simply ended up compensating for the poor synchronization without knowing it. Maybe this old shutter has a different type of synch (M?) that is incompatible with modern flashes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
