I am new to any kind of repair or restoration so if it seems I don't know what I am doing , I DO NOT. I recently purchased my first rangefinder a Minolta Hi-Matic 7s. Trying to do a diy cleaning to put in working condition. So far all seems ok until I got to the batt comp. and found it wet, no corrosion build up yet but I am sure the old batt. had leaked. Can anyone tell me how to clean or neutralize before it gets any worse. Thanks jr |

Hi Jr I would just dip a hand towell in white vinegar and wipe around the inside of the compartment and then wipe dry. Cheers Greg |

Well that took care of that meter works now if the shutter and aperture is accurate it will be good to go. Guess the best way to check for exposure accuracy is to run a roll of pos. film and see what happens. JR |

The aperture blades in those Minoltas are often gummed up. Before you put film in it, just set it to F1.8 and B and look thro the camera to make sure the aperture blades and shutter blades are fully open. |

Getting back to the 7s been a bit busy. Have checked shutter and aperture earlier in this little project aperture fully opens and stops down with each stop. Shutter has a soft sound not a crisp snap but doesn't seem to hang and changes open time with each setting, may not be accurate but a definite change. Don't know a shade tree method of checking for accuracy so I will try to pick up a 12 exposure roll of neg. film and see what happens. Thanks JR |
