Hello! I have two Praktica MTL3's and they both have a broken self-timer mechanism. The lever does stop when wound to the lock position. As soon as I let go it automatically flips back to the normal position. Is this something that can be repaired by a man with a basic knowledge of camera workings?!?!? Thanks, Scott. |

I'm assuming the release in the centre of the lever is not stuck down. If you can hear the sound of gears turning when the lever returns it could be that the strip of spring steel that locks the star-wheel in the pallet mechanism when the thing is wound up is not doing its job. You would have to strip the camera to fix it. If the lever just goes straight back without even the sound of gears turning, it may be that one of the gears has come loose on its spindle. The mechanism on one of my spares Prakticas has this problem. I'm afraid in this case the only real remedy would be to exchange the unit from another camera. |
