My daughter lost the battery cover for my prized Canon FTb QL. Any ideas where to buy a replacement? |

There is a company in India who makes replacement parts for cameras. I cannot find the ref at the moment, but they have been mentioned on the forum with reference to tools - quite recently. I originally found them on eBay - do a search for replacement A1 battery doors on eBay or Google. Your friendly camera repair shop may have one in their scrap bin, I have found many small body/cosmetic parts this way. |

The link is www.camerashop.in (I think that's who you mean) but I just checked and I don't see an FTb battery cover there. I made one of these once, and I have the notes and sketches if you happen to have a friend with a lathe. |

Wouldn't it be simpler to just get a dead FTb? I don't think they're hard to find, and one may be able to get other needed parts from the donor later. It's something I often do with older cameras. I know it's not as adventurous as Rick's solution, but a friend with a lathe? May not be so easy to find. |

Of course! I haven't used a lathe since junior high school. It's hard enough to do some of the work - I got a Weston Ranger 9 for $4 that works, now I have to convert it to work with silver-oxides. That's enough for me at present. Got any spare BAT 43/46 diodes? (Just kidding, I'm going to get enough to do all my 625 cameras. Nice that they make a 625-sized silver-oxide battery). |
