Hello, just bought a beautiful Canon FTb QL, looks like new, shutter and all functions seem to work but I noticed the aperture isn't stopping down. Removed the lens and tried others but it's the stop down mechanism that's only moving about 1mm instead of continuing its travel to stop down the lens. Any ideas or recommended repair shops in Canada?? Thank you in advance. |

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you checked that the small stop-down control, the one that also locks the mirror, hasn't been moved from the white dot to the red L position? |

Yes thanks, checked that in all positions, wish it were that simple. |

Canuck Curt: It's probably internal and not any easy fix but you might try to look at two areas: remove the half-moon shaped plate or cover behind the diaphragm lever (at 6 o'clock back of lens mount)and check for obvious things like a spring off........... also remove the bottom plate and fire the shutter and watch for an area obviously not doing it's job. |

Thank you Art, I'll definitely try those suggestions. Hope to fix it 'cause it's in such sweet shape otherwise. |

Happy as a clam, retried the stop down control about 5 times and the stop down mechanism now works although the lens doesn't stop down. With several different FD lenses it works great now. Only need to fix the lens but that's nothing since I have several FD 50mms. Thanks to all for the help. You guys and gals are the best. |
