Hi
I've noticed beginning fungus on the front element and want to try cleaning it. I have removed the name ring but I'm not sure how to continue. Is the ring holding the front element in place to be removed the same way? Do I get a free front element or a whole group? I have searched in the archives but have only found some diagram by Rick Oleson about the 50mm.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've recently asked Rick about these lenses (I'm currently wrestling with a 20mm), and he's confident that most of them follow a similar construction so his diagram. So you should be able to use that as a basis if you can't find any specific info. Don't try to use the 55mm Micro-Nikkor as a template, though - it's different!

Thanks, Adrian. Could you please tell me whether the ring holding the front element can be removed in the same way as the name ring?

Unfortunately I've not got that far - I went in from the back, like the 55mm, and am now in trouble! I need to find an appropriately-sized rubber tool to get the first ring off. Sorry I can't be more help!

OK, thanks. I used a Ø49 lens hood covered with a rubber glove (!) for removing the name ring. Good luck!

regards
Michael
