I recently acquired a Petri 2.8 color corrected super rangefinder, and the shutter is not working correctly but before I take it in I want to know if I can do anything. I can pull the film-winding lever back and push the shutter button but the shutter goes off only periodically. There is no real patter but there is an audible difference when the shutter goes off and when it does not. Does anyone know anything about this problem? All advice welcome. Thanks.

I've had a few Petris that have had a similar problem of either releasing when winding on or only releasing when the shutter release was flicked quickly enough.

The first problem was a loose retaining ring on the back of the lens assembly that produced a loose coupling with the shutter crank and release coupling. All that was needed was a quick tightening of the retaining ring inside the film chamber. The most obvious symptom is a wobbly lens assembly that has some play between the lens assy and the body.

The second problem was caused by a bent coupling ring/fork assembly that turns when the release is pressed. The tip of the ring that trips the shutter was slightly bent and the quick fix was to slightly bend it back into the correct position.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but I might be able to snap some in the coming week or so.
