Hello again folks! Problem with this Old Standard, which is otherwise working, is that the shutter speed and aperture indices are so dirty as to be unreadable, so I wanted to remove the rings on which they're printed for cleaning. All I've thus far worked out is how to remove the front panel and take out the shutter assembly from the rear. What do I need to do to get at the index rings? Cheers, Jim |

With most of the TLR’s I have worked on the front plate is in 2 parts. The bit around the lenses normally comes off after removing the leather to get to the screws at the front. This is normally what has the indicators in, so once removed you just go in through the back. Most ones I can think of have 2 sets of screws in the face plate, one set removes the casing around the lens, the others remove the whole panal. I don’t think you need to remove the shutter, saying that I have never worked on an old standard. Maybe you just went in the corners of the leather to remove the panel? It may be you need to remove more to get to the screws that hold the 2 pieces together. Just a thought. |

I hadn't actually taken the leather off. The front panel comes off the Old Standard, shutter and all, by removing four large screws that aren't covered by leather. You may however be right about the second set of screws under the leather - I'll have to check. Cheers! |
