I have Pentax Electro Spotmatic (pre-ES) which has silvering damage on the prism. Does anyone know whether this is interchangeable with the prism of a Spotmatic 2, which appeared at about the same time? Thanks in anticipation, Steve |

Well, eventually I used the "suction and observation" approach, stripped down the offending Electro Spotmatic and a dead SP2. I was pleased to discover that the pentaprisms are identical and replaced the faulty one in the Electro Spot. For the record, I had some difficulty getting the prism to seat correctly as I otherwise ended up with a furry edge when looking through the viewfinder. I initially thought this was due to my replacement foam seal around the prism, but it turned out to be just a matter of wiggling and pushing in the right direction after slackening off the two locating grub screws at the front of the prism. The downside (isn't there always one?) is that having done all that the meter's no longer working. Hopefully a careful look will reveal a wire adrift or something similar. Steve |
