Hello,
for a few weeks I am now the proud owner of a Leica M5 (one of the first ones with two lugs). The only problem with the camera is the meter. Despite using the correct battery (1.35V) the meter shows at least 1 stop too much (means: to expose an ISO 400 film correctly I need to set the camera to ISO 800-1000).
Can this be adjusted withour major dis-assembly?
I am very thankful for any advise.

I've never worked on one, but according to Tomosy's guide, it's fairly simple. I'm paraphrasing him here.
The meter circuitry is inside the film cavity, easily accessible, and held in place by two screws.
When the screws are removed, you should be able access the meter circuit board. (I would made sure it's clean first of all--you can get detoxit at radioshack that words splendidly. That might solve the problem right away)
To adjust the meter, follow the schematic I've attached. R1 is for low light, R2 is for bright light. It seems that it's an exercise in patience, trial and error.

Try a Silver Oxide battery -- maybe it's been readjusted for one. |

works well now - still with an old 1.35V battery.
Does anybody know how to adjust the M6 meter?
Is that equally simple without taking the top cover off?
