Hi, I have a Canon FTb 35mm camera which I was trying to reload. To get th frame counter back from S to 0 I need to turn the lever which is stuck, either that is the case or the shutter release button is stuck. If anyone has a solution for this I would love to hear it.

turn which lever? if you want it to go from S to 0 you need to wind a couple times... |

You must release the shutter between windings and do not force anything.
If the shutter button depresses flush with the surrounding bezel and nothing happens, then the shutter is uncocked (fired) and must be cocked (and film advanced) with the winding lever. If the winding level is blocked (won't move freely) then ther is an issue with the camera.
If the shutter button will not depress then the shutter is already cocked and the winding lever is blocked. This by design. If this is the case with your camera, try the double-exposure method to determine if the winding lever still functions.
Press the rewind button on the bottom of the camera and then try to move the lever.
If the camera is still blocked, then something is wrong. The camera may be out of sync internally or needs service. Suffice it to say, service on a camera such as this will exceed the cost of buying another one.
Until the camera is forced and something internally is damaged, a 'simple' service all it will need. After that,parts may be required. |

As usual the simplest and most common cause of your problem has been ignored - Have you moved the shutter release lock lever into the locked position by mistake? This lever is the little lever 'under' the release button, its front edge is flat and has a black engraved line on it - if this lever is rotated to the locked position whilst the shutter is cocked the camera will exhibit the symptoms you have seen, so make sure the release is not locked.
The FTb is a sturdily built camera and is well worth the cost of a CLA if the shutter curtains are sound, and the camera's prism is not suffering from separation. If the viewfinder is obscured by a large number of 'fungus' like spots the best choice would be another body - three or four spots are not worth bothering or worrying about. |
