Hi,

Haven't been much here lately as I've been very busy.
A friend gave me a Sears Tower 41 35mm camera. I understand it is a rebadged Mamiya Automatic 35 EEF.
the shutter speed settings are Flash, 60, B.L. and 250
What is this B.L.? The letters are red and I wonder if it is related to the Auto aperture setting?

Thanks,
Ismael

Hello.
Don't know the camera, but is 'B'the normal cock-it-hold'it-release it setting? If so, is 'L'the normal 'T' setting? Just a thought.

Not in this case. The shutter dial looks like this:

250 B.L. 60 Flash

The B.L. is a single setting between 250 and 60. The numbers are white but the B.L. is red.

Thanks,
Ismael

Ok, well, red symbols or numbers usually have something to do with flash so, from what I saw in the collector book, this camera has a built-in flash for AG-1 bulbs and a PC tip for external flash. Now, uhm, in the '50s electronic flash was often called Blitz Light (or flash), so I am guessing the "Flash" setting is for the built-in flash and the "BL" is for electronic flash on the PC tip.

While not familiar with this camera "L" is sometimes used to indicate "Locked". I have a Sears camera made by Ricoh which has this on dial. At this setting the shutter cannot be accidently fired and the power to the meter is "Off".
Try this on yours.
Richard.

It has been a while, but I believe the B.L. on this camera stands for Bulb Lever. That is the B setting of course.

Thanks for the replies.
The shutter fires at this setting and it doesn't stay open, so it is not a Bulb setting, nor lock.
But it does have a PC port so that could be it. I tried this setting at different light conditions (pointing to the sun and in darkness) and had no noticeable change in the shutter speed. I'll test with an external flash and see if it triggers the PC port.

Thanks!
Ismael

Hello,

Just tried and the PC port is activated at all speeds. Maybe it means the fastest it can sync with it?

Thanks,
Ismael
