'The Ihagee founder and owner, Johan Steenberg, was co-erced into trading the rights to his Dresden factory to the Nazi government in return for a safe exit from Germany. He remained formal owner, so from then on the business was known as "Ihagee Camera Co (in adminstration)", a special status it retained during the DDR years. Steenberg finally established his exclusive right to the name "Exakta". After his death, former Ihagee managers started a new company, Exakta West, offering badged Japanese products. It was from there that the name passed to Japan, and was used for o.e.m. lenses in a variety of mounts.' The above is a potted history, available if one Googles 'Exakta Lenses' and then sorts out the dross! |
