I recently acquired a literal mint (Except light seals which I replaced) Chinon CS and ER case.
Want info as to approx. Mfg. Date.(S/N 422809)
I find no reference to this camera in McKeown's
1997/1998 or McBrooms 6th Edition.
Butkus.org has Manual for this camera but manual makes no mention of proper battery used. Butkus suggests that it uses Mercury cell but manual makes no mention of proper battery.
Any help greatly appreciated. |

The camerapedia page states that a 1,35V mercury cell type PX13 was used. These cells are of course no longer sold.
You could try out a replacement :

Thank you Hans for the definitive answer regarding battery type, as found in camerapedia.
I have not visited that site before but now find a wealth of info there.
The subject camera must not have had much success on the market as I have not found much info elsewhere.
I will use 675 hearing aid battery with adapter ring and shoot a roll soon.

Ok Richard. Think the adapter ring / hearing aid battery is a good option. I use them too for older equipment like hand held lightmeters. |

Hans; I find that the 675 lasts quite a long time if one reseals the air holes with adhesive tape when not in use.
I use the following for adapters for the
625 (Zinc Air) to the 675(Merc) size:
#12AWG copper wire formed around 7/16" dowel rod. This results in a snug fit over the 625 hearing aid battery.
I'm sure that this is not original with me but it seems to work fine.

This is what often happens when you pass 80 years of age.

I have got a 1981 World Camera Guide by Nigel Skelsey, which lists the Chinon CS (Chinon Screw) as current. These cameras are not quite as old as you might think, they were probably an effort by Chinon to capitalise on the number of screw fit lenses still available, although most makers (including Chinon) had by then gone over to bayonets. |

(Chinon Industries Inc. is owned by Kodak Japan Limited, the Japanese daughter company of Eastman Kodak Co. . It sells digital cameras to Kodak and provides assistance to Kodak Electronic Products (Shanghai), the manufacturer of its cameras.
The takeover by Kodak took place in January and February 2004. Before that time Chinon had been an independent camera manufacturer for around 50 years.)
This is a very solid and heavy camera Mfg'd prior to the plastic junk. It is stamped "Japan".
I'm eager to film test it even tho' it appears to never have had prior use.
