Hi, On my camera the shutter will fire only a few times before it will stop. When it stops i can hear it trying to fire but it wont. Another weird thing is that it will shoot really good upside down, but when i turn it right side up it it will stop shooting. |

I suspect this is a typical dried-out lube issue in the mirror-box interface mechanism and would require the mirror-box out to fix.
Such is quite a job on a Maxxum but you may consider a professional repair justifiable. Of course - somebody will doubtless offer a tongue-in-cheek reply to your post by suggesting an alternative of standing on your head. But I would not trivialise this venerable forum with any such suggestion :-)) |

It might be a good idea to take it somewhere that does free estimates before going too far. Old Maxxums have a common problem with a little part called the "aperture base plate," which can cause odd behavior such as intermittent firing. Unfortunately, this part is no longer available, and I'm told by my local repairman that cannibalized parts are also nearly unobtainable because of frequent demand. My wife had one of these Maxxums a few years ago, and it went awry. We were told it might be the dreaded base plate, and were relieved that it wasn't, so if you like the camera it's still worthwhile getting an estimate, but if it turns out to be that, you should probably be ready to replace the body, and perhaps look at later models. |

Sorry for the late post. I went ahead and got a Maxxum 7000i, but i am still interested in getting it fixed. Unfortunatly though I had a nephew down who apparently thought he could fix it and squirted 3 in 1 oil all inside it while I wasn't looking. Hopefully it won't cause any trouble. |

I just noticed that in my 7000i that it is skipping frames. Ya'll wouldn't happen to know what causes this. |

I looked up the skipping frames problem a bit, and the news is not very encouraging:

3 in 1 OIL? Ouch. I hope it didn't get too far in.
Sorry I can't be more help on this, but wish you luck either in repairing what you have or finding a good one. Those old Maxxums are pretty nice shooters if you get a good one. |

I just remembered though when I was on the roll of film that has the empty frame that it was pretty low light and my flashes batteries were getting low, and it wasn't firing sometimes. I hope there is nothing wrong with it. The camera I can tell has been babied all it's life and I'm also babying it.
Anyways the 3 in 1 oil is all over the shutter blinds, it's in the mirror box and it's all over the PC board. Kinda sucks can this was my moms camera |
