I picked up a dirt cheap press camera with the intent to strip a dirt cheap polaroid pack film camera of its back and mounting it on a 4x5 adapter.

Does anyone recognize it?

It appears to be a Busch Pressman, made in USA back in the mid century.

Definitely not a pressman model D. I haven't been able to find a picture of the original pressman. It's also definitely prewar.

The lens is a real oddity. It's about 150 - 160mm, four elements in three groups, and missing the front facing, so there's no identifying information.

This picture shows the geometry; pardon my terrible art skills.

Check out this thread on Graflex.org. Might be helpful. Could be a model C.

French article on the Model C.
