Recently acquired this camera. Cosmetically lovely. Seemed to have a shutter problem(Prontor-S). Opened up the shutter today and it definitely has a problem, maybe more than one. Someone has removed the speed escapement unit and a couple of other levers. Question: must I now find the exact shutter on a donor or will the internals out of any medium format prontor-S fit? Any help or opinions welcome. Can't understand why anyone would do this to a very clean camera. |

I would not assume that the internals from another Prontor would fit; I see a tremendous variety of little (and major) details inside shutters of the same brand and basic model name. I'd try to at least find one of similar manufacture date, but it's going to be a bit of a crap shoot..... |

I (at least) partially agree with Rick. It is not very advisable to swap parts between shutters even of the same model name. I once did so with the internal shutter release levers of a Prontor SV - did not work until I put back the original one. However, I think the Prontor S on the Ikonta has no modifications, such as special lens mounts etc. So you very probably can swap a shutter assembly from another vintage camera. I remember I once fitted a Pronto shutter to a Zeiss-Ikon Nettar camera which originally had a Prontor SV shutter. The lens elements fitted very nicely and I got it back to operation again. |

I have purchased a Zeiss Ikon Ikont prontor - sv. The shutter is stuck open. I have tried to rotate the shutter speed to Bulb, as has worked on other cameras, and it will not go that far. The shutter release is stuck. I'm not a camera repairman, are there any tips on how I can get this beautiful machine operating again? |
