I have a minolta x7a which I am under the impression is the same as the minolta x370. The shutter is only retracting 1/3 of the way. I found the solution to this listed in an old post on this forum but the marked photograph that the members were circulating was not posted on the page itself. Can somebody please help me find a visual guide for how to separate and re-align the blue and white timing gears in my camera?

Well, geeze. I really did it now. I couldn't wait so I just went on in there. I loosened what I imagined to be the correct screw, found that it was, but then realized I didn't really know what to do with the gears. So I put the gears back together, tightened the screw and tested the system. Unfortunately I didn't tighten the screw enough, the gears came apart, nothing happened as it should and now the camera won't cock and the shutter won't click. |

oh, and it appears the mirror is stuck spring-loaded up as well. Turns out I'm a straight chump. |

I know we had this in the archives, but some of the older years are gone.
Now that you have the retaining screw identified and slackened, rotate the blue gear (sometimes grey) clockwise until you feel the resistance of the curtain being wound. Back off a geartooth or two, move the gear back to a meshed position with the other gear, tighten the retaining screw, and give it a try. If it's still a bit off, you may have to move it a gear tooth or two in either direction.
But look at the gears closely before trying this. If teeth are missing, bent, deformed, etc. you will continue to have the problem until you replace the defective gear(s).
