My Nikkor 85mm/2.0 doesn't focus to infinity: Even when I aim it toward a far away target, it will focus to about 20m. Since I like shooting with open aperture, my pictures are not in focus. How can I fix it? |

I'm not familiar with the 85/2.0; two common ways of handling focus adjustment that I think are both used in Nikkors are:
(1) under the rubber focus ring grip, the metal ring is split in two and held together with a strip of adhesive tape. Remove the grip and the tape, adjust the ring as required and tape it back up.
(2) After removing the front trim, there are 3 screws in the front end of the focus ring, accessible from the front. Loosen the 3 screws, adjust the ring as required and retighten. |

Hai: Rick seems to have you covered. But, make sure it is the lens that is the problem & not a finder or body impact distortion problem. With a firm grip on the lens, shake it to see if anything is loose like a group of elements. Inspect the lens barrel for any impact damage or distortions, also check the flange on the rear of the lens to see if it is snug. A good test to is on a tripod, put a piece of ground glass on the film plane & lock the shutter open & check infinity with the finder. these are some basic things that do not require a lot of skill & relatively easy to check.
