Trying to resurrect an OM10 I had lying about.
First it wouldn't wind on or fire etc,
but replaced the batteries and cleaned it up, seemed happy out. So I loaded up a film and fired away... when I got to 40/E, I got suspicious!!
I rewound the film, but I think it hadn't been winding on... sigh.
Anyway, now a different problem has arisen. The shutter button won't go down. (Well it'll drop about 1mm.) But the 'wind on' is happy to keep winding away.
I opened up the bottom of it, and I can 'force' the botton to drop, but the shutter doesn't fire.
Any ideas camera collective?

Did the shutter cock, or is the wind lever just free wheeling? Try rolling the film sprocket with your thumbs, if the shutter is cocked the sprocket shaft won't turn. |

the shutter won't cock.
The wind level is pushing the spring into position, but it doesn't stay there. |

Nope, mirror is fully down, and mobile. |

If the mirror is down, and can be lifted to the top fully, the camera is not cocked. If the mirror can only be lifted slightly, the mirror mechanism is ready to fire, and, usually , the shutter is cocked. |

M: Check the sprocket spool while advancing the lever & see if it is spinning or stationary with a light pressure applied to it. The rewind clutch may be stuck in the disengaged position. Also Check out the Repair Manuals noted in the top bar for a manual on this & the OM-1. Oh & the usual procedure after putting in a roll of film in, is to take up the slack in the film until a light tug is felt & with a light pressure on the rewind knob advance the cocking lever to see that the film is advancing. The rewind knob should rotate.....

@Old School: Is that the take-up spool? If so, yep, it does move when I wind it.
If the camera won't fire when in rewind mode, that would make sense. Is there a part I can see when it's in rewind mode? I'm having a pick through the manuals, but it's a little complex for a first timer!  |

On the front right of your camera there's a little tiny knob that you turn a quarter of a turn to let you rewind the film (if my manual was to hand I'd tell you the page number). From memory, the white bar on it should be vertical in shooting mode, and horizontal in rewind mode.
Does that help, or am I misreading the question? |
