Hi, can anybody tell me how to remove the front element of a Minolta md zoom 50-135mm f3.5. It's got spot mold inside and I have to clean it. I have remove the 3 small screws at the side of the front and also the 2 screws at the side that release a plate inside and I can loosen the front zoom part but can not take it completely. Also, I can't remove the rubber grip on this lens. TIA. |

I've had zero experience with Minolta lenses, but on all the lenses I HAVE dealt with (Canon FD, Vivitar, Pentax), the front element is usually held in place by a threaded ring. if there's a slot or round hole on either side of the ring (180 degrees apart), you'll need a spanner wrench to remove it. If there are no holes or slots, you'll need a rubber "cup" wrench, just the right size to bear down on the ring to grip it while you unscrew it. Sometimes, a light swabbing of isopropyl alcohol on the threads (and left to soak in) is needed to dissolve any cement present. Also, the 1st ring might be merely decorative: it may cover a second ring, with spanner slots, or holes (again, spanner wrench needed)--or screws that can be removed to free the ring and glass. As for the rubber grip, you shouldn't have to remove that just to get the front element out. Also, a truly good set of precision screwdrivers is a must for this kind of work--the cheap, hardware-store variety are practically useless. Micro-tools is a good source for all the tools you need. Once you buy them, you can take apart, clean, and repair the rest of your lens, or lenses, as needed...if you're up to the task...Good luck! |

Im having this problem as wel. Im trying to disassemble a 80-200 f/4 Tokina RMC but i cant remove the front element. I loosend the 3 srews on the front too, it comes loose, but i cant remove it completely. Its stuck a the end. Beneath the rubber on the zoom ring I saw 2 small metal thingies wich prevent the front tube coming loose... |

Thanks. I can loosen the front elements but I can't take it out because the front ring is too small. I remove the plate held by 2 screws at the side and the whole front tube can be loosen but I still can't get it off. It is held by the focus ring with the rubber grip. |
