Ok, I'm just gonna say it... I dropped me camera. I dropped it and the damn thing broke. The autofocus doesn't work and it won't focus. Manual will work though.. which is odd. I'm really worried. How bad was the impact? How much will it cost to be fixed?
Oh, it's a Canon EOS Elan II.. if that makes any difference. |

This forum concentrates on cameras a bit older than yours:

Most people here don't mess around with plastic, electronic or autofocus equipment - not because it's not worthy but because it isn't easy for the home tinkerer to fix.
That said, you need to find out what exactly has been broken here. If you can, borrow another similar Canon SLR and lens. Does your lens work on the borrowed camera and does the borrowed lens work on yours? This will tell you if the camera, lens or both are broken. Unless your lens is very expensive neither it nor the body are probably economical to repair as they would have to go to a comercial repair shop to be fixed.

Hi Samantha!
Although I prefer repairing classic cameras, I have worked on several EOS bodies and lenses. Follow Martin's advice and post you findings here. I suspect the AF-mechanism in the lens is broken. In general I find that the standard EOS zooms (without the red ring) are not solid and not well build. |

Thank you both so much for your advice. Also, I wasn't aware that this was the wrong place to be posting... sorry! I will try to get another Canon SLR and my uncle is coming to visit me tomorrow. I'm hoping he can help since he is good with camera's. Again, thank you. |
