I posted a response, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, I will try again since I have remembered a few more details. The front plate of the camera needs to be removed. Peel back the four corners of the leatherette and you will find 4 screws. Remove those and the self timer lever. The aperture selection ring must also be removed using the small set screws around it. The thumb pads on the shutter speed ring also need to come off. I think that will allow the front plate to come off. The top has 4? screws holding it on. The bottom plate is similar. I hope this helps. Incidentally, if anyone has a 500G sitting around for parts, I am looking for a meter assembly. |

Thanks guys. What I need to do is get in there to check the battery connections. It works fine on manual, but the meter is dead; it is is pretty obvious that someone stored this thing with a leaking battery in it. Cleaning the battery contacts had no effect, so next I check the soldered connection and the wire(s). |

Okay, guys, new problem. One of the screws holding the aperture selection ring is solidly oxidized in place. Any suggestions on how to get it out of there? I'd try heat, but the ring it is set into seems to be made of plastic and would probably melt if I used a soldering iron on it or a hot wire. |

I would apply a drop of oil and let it sit over night. Dirk |

Well, I got the ring off, removed the front and resoldered the connection, which had, indeed, come loose. However, the meter is still dead. Waynemel, do you still want a parts camera? |

Since it uses obso mercury batteries, but works fine in full manual mode, why not just shoot with it anyway? It would not be surprising if the meter was off even if it had power. I have a Ricoh 500 and 519, both of which are full manual anyway (no meters built in). They're fun cameras, and Ricoh definitely has a characteristic all their own. |
