Purchased an OM-2 from goodwill, the film advance lever does not wind, and the shutter does not fire as a result.Believe it needs to be reset which I have done on a few nikons, pentax, konica and a ricoh but can't seem to find the lever to trip the shutter on this.is it controlled by a magnet like the minolta x series.or what lever am I missing.Thanks. |

You have it backwards: the shutter does not fire, and the film advance lever does not wind as a result. The lever does not wind because the shutter is already cocked. After replacing the battery in a dead OM-2, you need to reset the system by rotating the shutter speed ring to the B setting. There is a lockout, to move the ring from 1 to B you need to press a small button at the lower corner of the lens mount. Then, if the camera and battery are OK, the shutter will reset, the mirror will come down and you'll be good to go. |

If the camera is working correctly, but simply needs new batteries, the mirror will rise, but the shutter won't run. The camera will reset without batteries by pressing the reset button and turning the shutter ring to "B" If it doesn't,don't put batteries in, since all circuits are turned on by the mirror rising, and you'll simply flatten batteries. Unfortunately, if it doesn't reset, there is likely to be something majorly wrong. |
