The aperture ring turns smoothly but the diaphram inside does not keep in step with the ring, it opens all the way but when you step down it only closes down 3 steps, if you gently tap the lens it will close and when opening up again all works any suggestions, the lens has had very little use |

As a follow up, I have been moving the ring back and forth and now it steps down one more step. Could it be just stuck from age? Or is there a spring that might be off? |

If it hasn't been used in a while, it's most likely the lubricant has gotten a bit dry or gummy, or migrated to one spot. Keep working the ring back and forth, and it should loosen things up a bit. I had a shutter on my Retina that was hanging up after having sat for who knows how long before I received the camera. I just kept working it, and eventually it came back to life, and gives good exposures. PF |
