Hello, I have just got hold of a really nice Pentax K2 which just needs new seals & mirror damper. I noticed that there is also a seal just at the back of the Fresnel screen which has also perished. Can this be replaced like the other seals & if so does anyone know what type & size of foam to use as I can't find any info on this. Cheers. |

The person who can answer this better than anyone else is Jon Goodman: [email protected] |

I heartily concur with the suggestions of Jon Goodman for the seals. But, if the internal seals are disintegrating as you describe, I would strongly suggest sending the camera to Eric Hendrickson at: http://pentaxs.com/index.html He repaired my KX, which suffered from the same problem. The foam had crumbled and fallen down into the timing escapement, gumming up the works. Eric is the Pentax man! |

The seals in question are the ones that surround the mirror when it is in the up position to block light coming from above. There are two small felt ones either side of the screen & one foam strip at the back as well as the damper at the front. I need to replace all of these. I have bought several kits from Jon Goodman & know that they are excellent but I don't see any mention of these particular seals in his pro-seal instructions from this site. I will have to email him & ask about them. |

The K2 contains a whole bunch of internal foam seals. Jon has always provided clear instructions for light seal replacement but cannot be expected to provide precise instructions for seal replacements which require a major disassembly of the camera. The K2 requires major surgery in order to get at all of the deteriorated seals. |

I don't think the camera needs any major surgery or disassembly, its just a case of finding out what type & size of foam is needed as replacements. I just wanted to know if anyone else has replaced these in the past, like I said I will contact Jon to see if he has any idea. |
