I have a Petri 2.8 CC Super with a shutter problem, shutter does not release when button is pushed. I looking for information, how to disassemble the lens barrel to get to the shutter.

There's a pictorial of the process at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rwrede/sets/72157632086559984. Also, there have been a number of threads on the subject in this forum in the past; search the archives.

You'll be able to get to the front of the shutter by removing the front lenses, but to take the shutter off the camera you'll have to remove the covering from the front of the body. The covering will come off in pieces, so it will need to be replaced with leather, vinyl, or cloth afterward.

The actual shutter is completely contained withing the cylindrical part of the camera usually referred to as the shutter/lens assembly on cameras of this sort.

You can do many shutter repairs by removing enough of the rings and outer-most lens element/groups from the front to expose the speed cam, and the spring-loaded swivels that follow the cam contours, the escapements, the shutter blades, etc..

Your problem might be under the top cover, might involve the double-exposure prevention mechanism.

It might be in the linkage that transfers the downward action of the shutter button to the release level of the shutter. If that's the case, then the shutter/lens assembly might have to be taken off the camera.

The shutter/lens assembly is attached to a square-ish plate that is screwed onto the front of the camera body. The shutter/lens assembly is attached to that plate by a large threaded ring (which is on the back of the plate). Instead of trying to remove that ring, it is usually easiest to leave it in place, and remove the whole plate with the shutter attached (on many rangefinders of this sort, you won't even see that ring until the plate is removed).

To do that, you need to peel back the vinyl far enough to uncover the (usually) four screws that hold the plate on the body. Don't peel the vinyl off any further than necessary, and it will be easier to glue it back later.

When you have the plate (with shutter attached) off of the body, it is easier to locate other problems with the shutter button and release linkage.

Also, with the shutter off of the body, you can cock and release the shutter and test or fix it.

There can be problems with the cocking levers and gears under the bottom cover. If something is preventing the camera from being cocked fully, then you won't be able to release the shutter.

But all of this is just the fundamental stuff that you can find out by trial and error.
