Have a nice spotmatic body that the meter works as it should.shutter works but I have to wind it from the bottom with the bottom plate off.the wind lever starts to engage for about 1/16 to 1/8 of the stroke then it sounds like a rachet.before I take the top off is this just something that maybe loose or is there a common failure of a part that I should obtain first to make the repair. And more importantly any one have any notes on how to remove the top cover? Thanks |

Pretty standard... the repair manuals are out there. On the wind lever, be careful. The counter cover is held in by three grub screws; never remove them all the way, you'll probably lose them and not get them back in. The next screw is, on most, a LEFT-HAND thread; turn it the wrong way and you'll break it off. Start slowly! Lift the dial off. The rest is pretty self explanatory; don't bring the circular spring held in by three screws on the wind arm, as it's what keeps the arm level and it will be very difficult to get the arm to work properly if you break it. |

Ditto on the LH thread thing - and as Jagstang hints, they are not ALL left-hand, the thread direction was changed during Spotmatic production. So be extra careful, in both directions. The ratchet consists of 2 or 3 little spring-loaded levers below the wind lever. They are normally disengaged but swing in as you start to move the lever. They are operated by little hair springs, and a bit of dirt can make them stick and not engage. Once you have the top cover off for access, a couple of drops of lighter fluid on these little pawls will fix it. Olympus OM1 and OM2 cameras have the same design. |
