Hello,
I have an F-1 whose first shutter curtain appears to have jumped its track. There is a small gap between the first curtain and the second, which I believe is the result of one of the curtain tensioner strips having been loosened too much. I believe it's my own fault, the result of screwing around with the tension too much. I believe I will have to remove the mirror box to get the strip back on its pulley. I have seen this happen before and have unsuccessfully attempted to correct it.
My question: I have attempted removal of the mirror box in an F-1 before, and successfully resintalled the aperture indicator circle, which I am told is the tricky part of mirror box removal. However, upon removal and reinstallation of the mirror box, the camera would cock but not fire. I am therefore timid about performing this procedure now. I am wondering if there is anything that I should pay special attention to in regard to this procedure, i.e. should the shutter be cocked or fired, is there any particular spring tension that I might be unaware of that I should pay attention to, etc. If anyone could provide a detailed account of the removal/installation procedure, that would be appreciated, as is all help.
