I'm very new to photography and I just bought my first lens in January. It's a standard Canon 50mm lens... but in the past week or so it's somehow been broken! The problem is this; the area that focuses the picture somehow cocked sideways into the lens itself. One part is sticking up more than the other and it's stuck. I'm afraid to make it worse. I have no idea how this happened, but it did and I need to fix it or else get another one. I'm still finding out about an exchange or a one year guarantee... but would it be possible to fix it? Has this happened to anyone? What should I do? |

Samantha, It would be helpful to know which model lens this is. Is it for an autofocus Canon EOS camera or for the older manual focus cameras? From your description, it seems the lens the lens has been dropped. It takes a significant impact to cause the condition you have described. Your best course of action may be to buy another lens. They should be very inexpensive on the used market. |

After a recent plane trip in which my EF 2.8L 70-200 lens was in checked luggage (Don't do it!), the zoom will not work. I am wondering if I should buy an repair manual and attempt this or send it off to a repair shop. |
