Hello, My Praktica MTL3 has a stain which I beleive is on the prism. It appears as two vertical lines center/bottom in the viewer. I have no idea what it is or how it got there, but I would really appreciate any advice as to how I could remove it. Thanks, Robert |

This sounds like the silver is deteriorating on the prism surface. There have been some discussions of the task of resilvering a prism, but I've never done it. |

Thanks, Sounds like it might be more serious than I had thought. But I'm wondering, how will this affect the photos? And, is there any way to wipe off the prism? The camera was sitting in my closet for about 8 months, and when I recently pulled it out, the marks were present. |

Hi Robert! The stains could be on the focusing screen. But whether on the prism or screen they will have no effect on your photos. |

Are you sure that what you are seeing is not bits of deteriating mirror damper rubber that has stuck to the mirror ? |

Thanks for all the conjectures! I think it could be one of any number of things. But since the camera also had a problem with the take up spool, I left it at the repair shop to get a professional estimate. The camera isn't worth a great deal to begin with, but I'll let you know if I find out for sure about the stain. many thanks RB |
