I was test firing my NIkon FM2 which I had not used in a while, all of a sudden it would not fire. I think maybe I had not wound it the full stroke. I wound it again and no resistance, the button does not fire the shutter. The mirror is down. Anyone got any ideas on how to free it or am I facing a huge repair bill? This is the earlier model with the 1/125 flash sync, not the later model with the 1/250 sync. |

Are the shutter blades open or closed--if the shutter has not completed its total travel, camera will lock up |

Shutter blades are closed, mirror is down, wind on lever is free (will turn full travel), shutter button does nothing. |

Look at bottom of camera and put a coin the coupler screw that is at bottom end of the wind mechanism and see if it will rotate counterclockwise. It maybe that the wind cam hasn't come back after winding and this will lock up the camera. |

Ed, that fixed it! Do you know what caused that? I'm just concerned that it might happen again. |
