The light meter on my ae-1 always indicates overexposure (shutter pressed down halfway or not). I have put in a new battery, changed the film speed and nothing. The only time the needle will move is when I'm checking the battery. Any thoughts or suggestions?

It sounds like you might have a problem with your shutter release switch. Does the shutter fire when you press the button?

i have this same problem with my AE-1 and i was looking on here for an answer. my battery is fine as well. so is my shutter. it seems like the needle on the meter is always either at the very top or very bottom of the scale, but its at the bottom 95% of the time. also, since the meter is broken, every time i set the aperture to automatic, it sends it all the way down to f/1.8 because it thinks it needs more light. even if its a sunny day and i have a shutter speed of 2". i asked my photography teacher and he doesnt know either. how about some help please?
