As a newcomer to camera restoration I am having trouble with an older Pentax S1a where the shutter remains open and the mirror locks up at speeds =/< 1/30th of a sec. I'd like to open the camera up to investigate but am having a difficulty removing the film advance lever. Seems like it is impossible to get enough leverage to unscrew the cover. Any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
if you're refering to the counter cover, it is held on by three small set screws around the circumference--loosen those and remove the cover and you will see the other parts that need to come off to remove the lever.
