Does anyone know how to get the top off a Petri FT EE? I have all the screws/knobs/levers off and can raise the top about half an inch, but can't figure out how to get the film rewind crank off so I can remove it the rest of the way. |

Wedge a screwdriver or tweezers in the fork inside the camera and just unscrew the top. |

Thanks - it was tight, but it did unscrew once I got a good grip on the shaft.
Next question: shutter acts like it is on Bulb on speeds slower than 1/60 sec. Any way to correct this? |

Hi Ted-
That's usually an indication that your camera needs a thorough CLA. Does the half second speed seem to time OK after you release the shutter button or is it literally "B"? This camera is a bit complex mechanically- it was one of the first auto exposure SLR's and any deterioration of the original lube is going to slow or stop it's normal functions. |

Seems to be literally "B" -- times OK if shutter button is very rapidly released on slow speeds. I'm guessing the problem is in the mechanism behind the shutter button itself, but I don't know how to access that area. |

The slow speed escapement is driven by the tension on the second curtain in this model(and others). If the spring tension is too low, the slow speeds will hang until the shutter button is released. The tension adjusters are at the bottom of the camera, with the second curtain adjuster being toward the front of the camera. That is the most likely cause, and the most likely cause of low curtain tension is old lubrication. |

That did it! Found the tension adjuster (a little star wheel about 1/8" diameter with a screwdriver slot on top) and turned it CCW about one turn, everything works great now. Thanks, Ted |
