The blades may be clean but the activator ring is probably sticky with congealed grease, If you have all the optics removed - then you can flood clean the iris mechanism with pure petroleum spirit - and exercise it. Be careful not to get the fluid into the focusing helix - otherwise it will thin the helix grease and you end up with a sloppy focusing ring. The other possibility is in the auto-aperture-drive mechanism as to be seen when you remove the bayonet end of the lens. Caveat with this lens. The front end rings are plastic and are prone to cracking. Handle with care. Stuart Willis |
