Hi all, I'd like to know how to open up this lens. The aperture mechanism is stuck to wide open, plus I'd like to do a bit of internal cleaning. Do I actually need a spanner to get it open ? Any help appreciated. Dan |

Daniel, Is this a breech lock mount, or FD (new) mount? The new FD mount lenses only close to working aperture when mounted on a camera, unless you simulate the effect - not an easy thing to do if you do not know what exactly to press and turn. The older self-locking breech lock lenses will also ony close the set aperture when the locking collar is turned to lock the lens on the camera. Again - this can be simulated by pushing on a small spring-loaded contact inside the breech mount. Just thought I gave these pointers before you tear into the lens..... Good luck, Jan |

It is a Breech-lock lens (the 135/2.5 doesn't exist in new FD). And the aperture is really stuck wide open. I know about pressing the contact and then turnin the mounting ring. |

You take the lens apart from the front. Briefly: Firstly you unscrew the disc that you see when you look at the front of the lens. It goes on the same thread as a filter would go inside the front and has the writing: CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN etc. on it. If you can manage this it will expose some small screws which hold the lens barrel inside. |
