Hello, I have a Nikon N6006 with the mirror stuck "up". The cushion is in good shape, and shutter seems to be closed. When I push the shutter release, the motor cycles, but the shutter does not operate. Are there any suggestions short of taking this to a repair service? All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Interestingly I have just today encountered this precise problem on a Nikon F301 (which I believe is very very similar). If your N6006 is indeed a basically similar model as with a 4 x AAA battery carrier under the user-removeable baseplate - then read on.
I found that the mirror return is not wholly independent of electronic interface and requires adequate battery power for the complete shooting "domino effect" cycle.
When the batter-carrier cradle was lifted from the camera chassis (5 screws on the F301) the two wires from the carrier to the camera "works" as terminating in two soldered connections, were hanging by a thread and of doubtful conductivity due to microscopic corrosion.
I replaced both wires and made impeccable soldered joints. The mirror subsequently returned and the camera sprang back into its former functionality.
