Bought this x-700 looks like new. Took two rolls of films already, first roll looks ok, no problem when shutter speed is 1/1000. The second roll has a few shots seems "half exposed" under 1/1000 which means half of the picture is correct and half is unexposed at all.
Note that I took these films outdoor with a temperature of about 30F, not sure about battery's age cuz didn't change it since I got it.
Took camera to a shop (I'm totally new to this and have no idea what's going on), they showed me that under 1/1000 the shutter curtain was not totally opened (can not see the full circle of the aperture).
I took it home and tried several times after that. Weirdly, first I see the exact same problem as in the store -- can only see half of the circle under 1/1000. But as I rewind-shoot many times, I start to see the full circle! And till now, it looks very good! Which is sooooo weird!
What might be the problem? The lubricant of the curtain? the weather? I just trying to avoid replace the shutter curtain cuz it will take me the same money I bought this camera!

It is hard to say for sure without seeing the camera, Jean. I think if the camera looks new, maybe it has not been used in many years. Possibly the lack of use combined with the cold temperature has caused the shutter to malfunction. It might happen that way. Try this before you spend any money...warm the camera well. Place it in front of a heating vent or in a sunny window until it is not cold. Then, work the shutter while watching through the back. If everything seems to be working fine, then allow the camera to get cold again. Not 30 degrees, but maybe 50 or 60 degrees...cool. Then see what happens. At least you will begin to narrow the causes of the trouble in this manner. Good luck.

Most likely than not your camera needs a shutter overhaul and lubrication. I had a similar problem with 2 of my Minolta cameras (X-700 and X-370). Mailed them to Garry's Camera, got them back a week later. They did an excellent work for a very reasonable price. Try 'em out. Here is their web site www.garryscamera.com.
