I've recently taken apart a Nikkormat FT3 to adjust a film release button that had jammed. In the process, I took apart the bar that activates the winding and shutter cocking mechanism and I must have placed it back improperly because now the camera will not stay cocked...when I advance the film the shutter automatically fires.

It seems to me that something must have let go inside. Any ideas?

take the rack out and look for the gear below it that the rack engages. rotate it SLIGHTLY towards the wind lever end and replace the rack. Try again--you may have to do this a few times--you can not go far enough or too far--it is trial and error.
