My old Nikon F2 is battered but working fine EXCEPT for the small foam strip that sits by the screen at the lens opening is ripped. Not a very techncial thing to replace but I'm worried that I might damage the mirror if I continue to use it. Can this be replaced by the user? Is this a bulk material or specific part for each camera? |

Sure it can. Look for "interslice" seller on ebay - I have already purchased three of its kits and Iwould recommend him 100%. |

I also recommend Jon Goodman (interslice). You can't go wrong with his kit. It comes with instructions and pictures and he can email you if you get stuck. |

Alternatively you could use a strip cut from an old foam mousemat with a sharp knife, glued in with rubbery adhesive, or a piece of felt light trapping from an old 35mm cassette. Either way you will have to remove the old foam first. P Laskey |

I think the only correct method is to use a proper self adhesive foam on seals/buffers that require sticking in place. There is no way that adhesives should be used, especially if you are new to the game.At one time I cut seals from correct foam and then used a special double sided tape, but since finding Jon Goodman(Interslice)I use his kit.Cheap, very good and it does what it says on the 'box'.You even get free postage in the US! As a matter of interest I could not use an old mouse mat even if I wanted to; all mine seem to have the consistancy of old lino! |

This may not apply to the F2, but on the F, the pad must be very precise, or the mirror lock will not work. It's thinner than you might think. |
