Hi,

I have just bought a non-working Minolta XG-1 from a garage sale. The problem with the film advance mechanism is that the lever can be wound again and again without cocking the shutter.

Would anyone please let me know what I should look for to diagnose the problem. I have tried opening up the bottom plate and didn't see any loose or broken parts.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Frank

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Frank, but the usual cause of this problem is a broken metal tab under the wind lever, which it should engage. As the camera does not work without a battery, it will not wind or release without one.

A frustrated user can easily exert enough force on the wind lever to break the tab, cratering the camera. Of course it can be repaired but you need a donor body and a major disassembly is required to put it in order. Using a coin, you can wind the camera at the bottom using the motor drive coupling. It will probably wind and release just fine that way with a good battery installed.

That will verify the diagnosis.

Hello! A friend of mine gave me Minolta XG-1 for repair. The problem is, that the curtains were in charged position, but the start button didn`t work. I took off the bottom cover and the the blocking mechanism for over-rolling was very rusted. Could be any other problem? As I saw above, the camera can`t work without batteries. What else can I do and where I can find repair instructions? Thank you!
