George,

My guess is you should not try to take lens off. Rangefinder mechanism & linkage is mostly under the top plate and you might want to look there first. Sometimes the rangefinder linkage binds up due to dried out lube or accumulated grime. I sent you some related Petri rangefinder disassembly notes so don't mess with lens or shutter yet!

Try this: Take off the wind lever and the rewind crank, remove the top plate. Carefully drip a small amount of solvent (like lighter fluid) at the pivoting/swiveling points in the RF mecanism. Work all the moving parts back and forth with your fingers until the friction is gone.

That usually does it, unless something is actually broken or has come loose.

Do you mean the RF or the focus? Those Petri cameras are notorious for having dried out grease in the focus helical. If that is the situation, you can try putting a few drops of light oil along the threads. Don't overdo it. You only need a tiny amount of oil to get it moving again. Reach in from the back through the film gate to do this.
