I recently bought a Rolleiflex F 3.5 Planar It is practically all in working order and produces fantastic shots. When using the sports finder though (by folding down the front of the waist level shade) I noticed the mirror, which should give a view of the top of the focus screen through a small lens below the frame mask, is missing. This mirror is trapezoidal in shape and appears to press into place and is retained by a spring-loaded plate. Any idea where I could get a replacement mirror? I'm not having a lot of luck finding anyone who can supply an original. Does anyone supply suitably thin mirror glass/plastic (1mm max) that can be cut to shape? |

Simon... Any decent optical laboratory can make up such a mirror for you. The glass is surface aluminised and they would be very familiar with such process. Also - whilst we in Australia do not manufacture such product, most glass specialists carry sheets which are imported from California, USA. Whilst a fine camera such as a Rolleiflex Planar deserves a precise original clone mirror - the sports-finder mirror to which you refer isn't particularly critical and in practice you wouldn't pick the difference between a surface aluminised mirror and a normal back-silvered mirror. The 1mm gauge is however critical. Hope this helps Stuart Willis |

Used Polaroid One-Step cameras can often be found for next to nothing at yard sales and thrift shops, and they contain a mirror that is just about perfect for the main reflex mirror in an Automat and can be trimmed to fit the sportsfinder with little difficulty. I replaced the main mirror in an Automat I with one of these. Mark P. |
