I have a VSL1 which has that strange drum-type frame counter: a strip with numbers is would (or should be wound) on a drum when the film is advanced. On mine it does not. If I turn the drum manually the frame counter will reset as I open the loading door. There seems to be a gear train somewhere below the speed escapement to drive the frame counter but I hesitate to remove the escapement. Any ideas how to fix the frame counter?

I assume that all Voigtlaender VSL models and also at least some of the Rollei SL35 have the same frame counter.

This is the Icarex counter. On the Rollei manufactured versions, film must be in the camera to turn the upper part of the top sprocket gear to work the counter.

Ooops... maybe this is the culprit. Did not have a film in the camera yet. Thanks for the hint! Probably the gear train I saw partially rather links to the sprocket wheel.

Checked it when I was back home. The frame counter works if you turn the upper sprocket wheel manually, very probably it will work with film, too. Thanks again.
