The light meter on my SRT101 is working but the follow-up needle (circle-tipped needle) will not move when I move the speed dial or diaphram ring on the lense.

I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom before attempting to fix this. I have never taken an SLR apart before. Is this a repair that can be undertaken by an amateur?

It sounds like the string that runs from your aperture ring to the needle has come off. If you taken the lens off and some of the outer hardware, you might be able to reattach it.

However if it is broken, you are in deeper waters. There are about three or four of these strings running on pulleys to the shutter, aperture and asa dial on a 101. When you take the top off it is easy to have them come off and very hard to get them back on. I have two apart they I couldn't manage. Maybe I will try again on a long winter night.

I would see about the string going into the aperture ring first. It doesn't involve taking the top off.

Hi Jon. Turns out that the problem was caused by the aperture ring being out of alignment so the lense lever never made contact with the knob on the ring. I probably did this by accident when messing around with lense changes?./?

Did take the top and bottom covers off while looking for the problem. Sure was glad I had read on the forum about the screw head under the red dot!!!!! I also heeded your warning about the strings and was extra careful not to mess with any of these.

Thanks for your kind help. Here's hoping that all goes well when I shoot off a roll of film.
